After the Associated Press’ Josef Federman wrote his recent article “New Israeli Coalition Confronts First Challenge”, the international newswire service sent it out to their subscribers from the Jerusalem desk, but The Daily Star in Lebanon chose to alter the dateline of the article, to read “Occupied Jerusalem”.
The dateline in a news article appears at the beginning of the text to indicate where the reporting took place. The AP holds their clients to strict standards on format, and instructs the users of their content to use Jerusalem as a stand alone city, leaving out Israel from the text. According to Israeli media, the AP is looking into the incident, however The Daily Star has yet to issue a statement on the matter.
The Daily Star, which is one of Lebanon’s most widely read english newspapers was founded in 1952.
