Speaking with the media from his hospital bed on Friday, the 16-year-old Israeli boy who was moderately wounded in an early-morning stabbing attack in Jerusalem’s Old City recounted the horrifying experience he went through.
“I was riding my bike in the market toward Jaffa Gate,” Yisrael Meir Nachumberg said. “I stopped in one of the alleyways to fix something on my bike. Suddenly, the terrorist jumped on me and hit me in the back. I was sure it was a punch. I turned around and saw a knife full of blood.”
The assailant — a 19-year-old Palestinian male from the West Bank — had previously attacked 50-year-old Israeli man Gavriel Lavi near Damascus Gate, gravely wounding him.
After stabbing Nachumberg, the terrorist was confronted and killed by police.
On Friday night, Lavi was in serious, but stable condition, at a hospital.
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin tweeted on Friday, “We are praying for the recovery of those injured in this morning’s stabbing attack in Jerusalem. I am with the families who are at their dear ones’ sides in hospital in these difficult hours.”
“We will not be deterred by this despicable terror that seeks to cut short life, and its perpetrators and their accomplices will face the full force of the law,” Rivlin added.
