Leiby Kletzky’s Brutal Murder Brings 150 New Cameras to Brooklyn

150 cameras will be installed in the Borough Park and Midwood areas of Brooklyn, New York, in an attempt to prevent violent crimes, like the 2011 murder of Leiby Kletzky.
Kletzky was leaving a day camp last year in July when he was abducted, murdered, and then chopped up by Levi Aron, a fellow member of the Orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn. Aron was picked up by authorities after a security camera identified him as a possible suspect.
“We can’t bring Leiby back, but we can make sure there are no other Leibys with God’s help,” said Assembly Dov Hikind. Hikind represents the community of Borough Park in New York’s state assembly.
The newly placed cameras will be funded by a $1 million grant from the state of New York and will operate outside local businesses, schools, and places of worship, beginning this fall.
