Mitt Romney will be in Boston today for a number of meetings, including one with major Jewish donors, as he looks to continue closing the gap between President Obama and himself among Jewish voters, after a decisive victory for the president in 2008 with the Jewish electorate over John McCain.
Thursdays meeting comes just 3 days after Vice President Joe Biden hosted dozens of Jewish leaders at the White House, to discuss a number of issues, including Iran’s nuclear program.
78% of American Jews who voted in the 2008 presidential election cast their ballots for Barack Obama. 2012 polling shows Obama holding between 60% and 62% of the American Jewish vote, with about 30% preferring Romney.
Polls taken in the first half of the year in 2008 showed relatively high support for the GOP candidate compared to the actual results in November. John McCain garnered 22% of the Jewish vote in 2008.
