The websites of Israel’s Ministry of Finance, defense forces, police, main intelligence service, and prime minister’s office were all unavailable Wednesday morning, a day after the Washington Post published a report claiming that U.S. and Israeli officials created a computer virus known as Flame as a prelude to “cyber sabotage” attacks on Iran.
An internet service provider with links to the Israeli government posted a voice message noting that they’re aware of the issue, according to the business site Globes.
“There is currently a problem with the forms, payments, tracking services, and a number of other sites. We are working to fix the problem as soon as possible.”
Globes quoted a senior Israeli government official as saying that Wednesday’s issue was “nothing more than a breakdown on one of the servers”.
When asked how 7 government websites could crash at the same time, the official was hard pressed to provide a detailed answer.
“I don’t know what to tell you at this moment.”
