Wife of Maccabi Tel Aviv Coach Claps Back at Online Criticism After Condemning ‘Barbaric’ Hamas Violence
by Shiryn Ghermezian
The wife of Robbie Keane — the Irish ex-soccer player who was recently appointed the new head coach of the Israeli Premier League’s Maccabi Tel Aviv — pushed back against online trolls who criticized her for condemning the “devastating scenes” in Israel after Hamas terrorists infiltrated the country on Saturday and massacred hundreds of civilians, while taking hundreds of others hostage.
As her husband was forced to flee from Israel to Greece after Hamas launched its large-scale attack against the Jewish state, Claudine Keane took to Instagram on Monday to comment on the violence taking place in the country, where at least 800 Israelis have been murdered since the initial Hamas attack. She posted a now-deleted graphic on her Instagram Story of a single yellow candle featuring a text that said on Saturday “more Jews were murdered than on any other single day since the Holocaust.”
The Irish model and mother-of-two then condemned Hamas’ kidnapping of Israeli civilians and its attack on an Israeli music festival over the weekend, where the terrorists killed at least 200 young men and children.
“Absolutely devastating scenes,” she wrote. “To all the lovely friends I’ve met, to the man who runs the coffee shop my husband has his coffee every morning who lost his son, to the people we know whose kids were at the music festival who were attacked barbarically, to the Holocaust survivors that were kidnapped and brought to Gaza. To the woman who was killed and raped and paraded naked, we see you. The world sees you and the world is disgusted by what it sees.”
“To the families who have lost loved ones, I pray for you. I pray for innocent civilians on both sides. No innocent people should be killed,” she added. “This attack can never be accepted. It was barbaric and innocent civilians were the target. My prayers are the hostages are released without harm. I pray for peace for all.” Keane also tagged the official Instagram account of Maccabi Tel Aviv.
She went on to repost a TikTok video with the caption “The devil does exist” that shows Israeli children taken hostage by Hamas, placed in cages, and then taunted by the terrorists.
Some Irish social media followers chastised Keane for showing support for Israel. One Instagram user named Gerard McAliskey called Claudine “a f—king toilet” and said, “Go read a history book. The same thing happened in Ireland for 800 years and when we fought back, we were called terrorists.” Keane was also accused of only voicing support for Israel “because Robbie is getting paid by the Jews.”
Keane shared a screenshot of McAliskey’s messages in a now-deleted Instagram story. She replied by saying, “Here we go, waiting for this. Good morning, Gerard. It has nothing to do with Robbie’s job, I’m allowed to have an opinion. I don’t believe anyone that I know in Ireland would like to be compared to Hamas, well not the informed educated ones anyway. Have a nice day.”
