The primary homeland security monitoring network for the North American Jewish community on Thursday said that they are not aware of any credible threats to Jews in the US in the wake of Saturday’s Hamas invasion of Israel.

Speaking at a briefing with FBI Director Christopher Wray, Secure Community Network (SCN) CEO Michael Masters said that despite statements from Hamas calling for action around the world, American Jews should remain resilient but unafraid.

“As of this time, we are not aware of any direct, credible threats against the Jewish community in the US,” Masters said. “Over the last few years, various incidents in the US have been motivated…by sentiments related to conflict in Israel and the region. As the conflict goes on, the threat dynamic may become more challenging. That said, this does not mean we need to live in fear.”

The Secure Community Network is a non-profit organization that provides security assistance and monitoring for hundreds of American Jewish communities across the United States and works closely with law enforcement.

Since Saturday, the network has observed an increase in online hateful rhetoric and calls for violence, including related to former Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal’s call for worldwide action in support of the terrorist group to be carried out on Friday.

“To all scholars who teach jihad… to all who teach and learn, this is a moment for the application (of theories),” Meshaal said in a statement to Reuters.

FBI Director Wray at Thursday’s briefing said that the FBI was working “around the clock” to support the American Jewish community.

“We’re doing all we can to help and we cannot and do not discount the possibility that Hamas, or other foreign terrorist organizations, could exploit the conflict to call on their supporters to conduct attacks here on our own soil,” Wray said. “We’re also keenly aware that these attacks in Israel could trigger threats here. So, we remain vigilant to the potential for these events to inspire violence against Jewish people, institutions, and houses of worship in the US.”

Wray added that the FBI was also working through its Tel Aviv liaison office to help the Israeli government and the US embassy in Israel locate the 14 Americans who remain unaccounted for after Saturday’s Hamas attack that killed more than 1,200 people.

While Wray did not mention any specific threats to the American Jews, the FBI did not immediately respond to The Algemeiner’s request for comment if it was monitoring any increased threats or was aware of any federal or local arrests related to antisemitic incidents since Saturday.
