Supermodel Bella Hadid has broken her silence about the Israel-Hamas war, saying in a lengthy statement she shared on Instagram on Thursday that she stands in solidarity with “Palestine” and the “innocent Palestinian civilians” affected by the conflict.

The 27-year-old, whose sister is fellow supermodel Gigi Hadid, also called for humanitarian aid to help “the urgent needs of the people of Gaza” and urged world leaders “to ensure that innocent Palestinian civilians are not the forgotten casualties of this war.” She also talked about seeing the “generational trauma” of her Palestinian ancestry unfold with Israeli air strikes targeting Hamas targets in Gaza.

Israel’s military strikes have been a response to Hamas’ invasion and brutal massacre of Israelis on Oct. 7. Hamas, the Palestinian terrorist group in control of Gaza, killed over 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and took over 200 people back to Gaza as hostages.

Hadid mentioned Israel in only one paragraph of her statement, while indirectly addressing the Israeli victims of Hamas’ atrocities and the hostages they kidnapped.

“I mourn for the Israeli families that have been dealing with the pain and aftermath of October 7th,” Bella wrote. “Regardless of the history of the land, I condemn the terrorist attacks on any civilians, anywhere.” She said violence such as that carried out by Hamas “does not and should not do any good for the Free Palestine movement.”

“I believe deep in my heart, that no child, no people anywhere, should be taken away from their family either temporarily or indefinitely. That goes for Israeli and Palestinian people alike,” she added.

The Louis Vuitton and Charlotte Tilbury model also revealed why she had not commented on the war earlier on. She said she received hundreds of death threats daily, her phone number was leaked, and her family has felt in danger since Hamas’ Oct. 7 massacre of Israelis. “But I can not be silenced any longer,” she added. “Fear is not an option. The people and children of Palestine, especially in Gaza, cannot afford our silence. We are not brave — they are.”

Hadid then attempted to describe the “hardship of what it is to be Palestinian, in a world that seeing us as nothing more than terrorists resisting peace.” She talked about “brutal settler invasions … murder in cold blood, the forcible removal of families from their homes,” and the “practice of settlements on Palestinian land,” the pain of which she said is “unimaginable.”

She concluded by saying in part: “All religions are peace — it is governments that are corrupt, and intertwining the two makes for the greatest sin of all. We are one, and God has created us all equal. All bloodshed, tears and bodies should be mourned with the same respect … I stand with humanity, knowing that safety and peace belong to us all.”

Bella’s statement on Instagram was accompanied by a video of a woman singing the chorus of Team by Lorde, which she used to describe how Palestinians are “living in ruins,” with various clips in the video showing explosions in Gaza as well as an alleged news report about a “massive Israel assault in Gaza.”

Bella is the a daughter of Dutch former model and reality star Yolanda Hadid and Nazareth-born real estate tycoon Mohamed Hadid, who is of Jordanian-Palestinian descent. She has notoriously spoken out in support of the “Free Palestine” movement many times in the past and shared anti-Israel posts on social media. In 2021, she attended a pro-Palestinian rally where she chanted “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” — a slogan widely interpreted as a call for the destruction of Israel, which is located between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.

Gigi released a similar statement to her sister’s earlier this month following the deadly Hamas terrorist attacks. The older Hadid sister condemned the violence against innocent civilians targeted by Hamas but also said she feels “deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation.” In the past, their father has also shared posts on social media against Israel.
