Prof. Eran Leitersdorf, born in Tel-Aviv and father of 5, is a graduate of the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School. He trained in Internal Medicine and Lipid Metabolism at Hadassah University Hospital. Prof. Leitersdorf is the recipient of five Hebrew University - Faculty of Medicine Prizes, the Fogarty (NIH), IAS Awards and various other prestigious awards. His main research interests are in Lipid Metabolism, Atherosclerosis, Molecular Genetics and Drugs Affecting Lipid Metabolism. Prof. Leitersdorf has published over 120 original papers, reviews, editorials and commentaries. He was formerly the Chairman of the Israeli Atherosclerosis Society and currently a member of the European and the International Atherosclerosis Societies. He was the Associate Editor of the journal "Atherosclerosis" and "Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology" and is currently a reviewer for many other scientific journals and national organizations. In 2009 Prof. Eran Leitersdorf was elected Dean of the HU Faculty of Medicine in Jerusalem.
