Jay Bergman is professor of history at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain CT. He received his B.A. in history with honors, magna cum laude, from Brandeis University in 1970, and his M.A. (1972) and M. Phil. (1973) from Yale University. He completed his Ph.D. in Russian history at Yale in 1977. He is the author, most recently, of Meeting the Demands of Reason: The Life and Thought of Andrei Sakharov, which was published by Cornell University Press in 2009 and was named an alternate selection of the History Book Club. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Scholars and president of its Connecticut Affiliate. In 2009 he was named a member of the Connecticut Advisory Committee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights, serving a term of two years.
