A prankster with a record of playing the fool at public occasions failed in his attempt to beat UK Conservative Party leader David Cameron in the rural constituency of Witney on Thursday, as Britons went out to vote in parliamentary elections. Aaron Barschak, running as an independent candidate in the safe Conservative seat, received 53 votes, compared with 33,973 for the incumbent – and was beaten by the light-hearted Monster Raving Loony Party. Barschak had previously gate-crashed Prince William’s 21st birthday party dressed as Osama bin Laden and attended the announcement of the results on Thursday night in a Jesus outfit. Barschak’s father arrived in the UK in 1938 from Vienna on Kindertransport, but his family were killed in the Holocaust. The joker is improving his performance in elections, having received only 37 votes in his last attempt in a London borough seven years ago. He had told the London Jewish Chronicle he aimed to get 43 people to vote for him – one vote per year of his life.
