NJ Nets to Host Maccabi Haifa on October 3rd

Maccabi Haifa, an Israeli Basketball Super League team, will play the NBA’s Nets Basketball team in an exhibition game at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on Sunday, October 3 at 7 p.m. The game is presented by IDB Bank.
The Nets have created international excitement since the team was purchased by Russian businessman Mikhail Prokhorov in May 2010. Under Mr. Prokhorov’s ownership, the team has hired a new head coach, Avery Johnson, a new general manager, Billy King, while also making upgrades to the team’s roster. In addition, the Nets have relocated their home games for two seasons to the state-of-the-art Prudential Center, before they permanently relocate to the world-class Barclays Center in Brooklyn beginning with the 2012-13 NBA season
Under Mr. Prokhorov, the Nets continue their goal to become the first global NBA team. The Nets’ international schedule this season includes: two preseason games in China against the Houston Rockets in October; a visit to Moscow in October to hold several youth basketball clinics; and two regular season games in London against the Toronto Raptors in March, which will be the first NBA regular season games in Europe.
Maccabi Haifa has a long and storied legacy as it was one of the original eight teams to form the Premier League during the 1954 season. Under the ownership of American businessman and New Jersey native Jeffrey Rosen, the team has earned a playoff appearance in each season and was the Super League runner-up during the 2008-09 season in the team’s first year back in the Super League after a 10-year absence.
Maccabi Haifa’s charity program, “Haifa Hoops for Kids,” a joint initiative between Maccabi Haifa and United Jewish Communities of MetroWest New Jersey, demonstrates the team’s commitment to assisting underprivileged and special needs children in Israel. Maccabi Haifa will be holding several charity basketball clinics and scrimmages in Newark, Madison, and New York City on October 4th and 5th to raise funds for the Haifa Hoops for Kids program, which benefits underprivileged and special needs children in northern Israel.
Maccabi Haifa’s 30-minute magazine show, “Inside Israeli Basketball,” is aired monthly on the YES Network, the Nets’ broadcast partner. The show captures the intricacies of Israel and the Super League seen through the eyes of Maccabi Haifa’s American players and their Israeli counterparts.
