A monument in the Latvian capital Riga dedicated to people who saved Jews during the Holocaust has been vandalised. The monument, honoring Zanis Lipke and others, was splattered with red paint. Latvian President Valdis Zatlers condemned the vandals’ actions, according to the AFP press agency. Last week more than 100 gravestones in a Riga cemetery were found defaced with swastikas.
