A suicide bomb attack by an Islamic terrorist in Sweden has prompted the local Jewish community to call for tighter security in the capital, Stockholm. Iraqi-born Taimur Abdulwahab al-Abdaly, 28, a graduate of a British university, was the only fatality when he blew himself up on a busy Stockholm shopping street on 11 December. Lena Posner-Körösi, president of the Swedish Central Jewish Council, said the organisation had already “expressed our concern to the authorities and explained our vulnerability” and said the Jewish community was an appealing target for terrorists. The city of Malmö has already seen a recent increase in anti-Semitic incidents, with Jews there advised not to wear Jewish symbols, including skull caps, in public.
