When it comes to iconic venues, few match the aura or impact of the NY Stock Exchange. “It’s a globally recognized destination on many levels” said Rabbi Etan Tokayer, Executive Vice-President of Just One Life on the impetus behind securing the location for the organization’s annual benefit.
Vast sums of money flow across that Floor each week, but for this evening the guests at the NY Stock Exchange had one goal and purpose – to work towards assisting thousands of young pregnant women and their unborn children. Rabbi Martin Katz, Just One Life’s director explained; “with estimates of terminated pregnancies in Israel ranging between 25,000 and 50,000 annually, the total has reached approximately one million since the founding of the State. In many of these cases the mothers would choose to have and raise their child if given the opportunity.”
The organization raises funds to support and finance the upbringing of these children, and has been successful in almost 13,000 cases to date.
Rabbi Tokayer pointed out that the hallmark of the well attended evening was the inaugural presentation of the organization’s One Angel Award, presented to Simon Jacobson of the J Group, who uniquely, and possibly for the first time ever, recited the shehechiyanu blessing in Hebrew from the bell podium.
The evening’s master of ceremonies, MSNBC’s Guy Adami told the Algemeiner that “he was moved by the success of the Gala,” he added, “the positive vibes seem to have found their way into the market as well.”
