On Tuesday, February 22, 2011 wine aficionados, gourmets and gourmands excitedly awaited the opening of the doors at the Fifth Annual Kosher Food and Wine experience at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan. Managed like a military operation by Gary Landsman, marketing director at Royal Wine, the event offers unlimited samplings of gourmet kosher cuisine and sips of hundreds of fine kosher wines from vineyards around the world. This “night of exceptional wines and mouth watering food” was a sold out ticket fully a week before its opening date.
Participating wineries included Herzog, Yatir, Castel, Capcanes, Elvi, Goose Bay and others. The 2011 KFWE witnessed the launch of several new wines, including the products of Israel’s Alexander Winery, which made their American debut.
No guest left hungry – not after sampling the extraordinary kosher selections from top rated Tri-State area restaurants and caterers. “We don’t hold anything back,” said Mr. Landsman, “KFWE is our gift to our customers.” Tempting international goodies from the “Prime” restaurants (Prime Grill, Solo, and KO) classic cuisine of Abigail’s, exotic Indian selections from Dakshin and Bella, Italian tastes from Tevere 84 and other offerings satisfied every taste.
The kosher food world has its own bevy of celebrity authors, represented this year by Joan Nathan, Jamie Geller, Suzy Fishbein, Levana Kirschenbaum and Jeff Nathan. (Watch for reviews of their texts in future issues of the Algemeiner.)
