The Algemeiner Journal extends a warm mazel tov to Ido Aharoni upon his formal appointment as Israel’s Consul-General in New York. Aharoni was named interim consul general in New York by Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman in August, 2010. His permanent appointment was announced at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s February 27th Cabinet meeting.
The Consul General joined Israel’s Foreign Service in 1991, and previously served as Consul for Media and Public Affairs in Los Angeles from 1994 to 1998 in Los Angeles and in New York from 2001 to 2005. Since 2007, he led Israel’s “Brand Management” Team in Jerusalem. Previously, he served as senior advisor to Israel’s foreign minister and vice prime minister in charge of media and public affairs.
Aharoni holds an MA earned from Emerson College in Boston and earned his BA from Tel Aviv University, where he completed a multiple major degree in film and television, sociology, and anthropology. He served in the Israel Defense Forces as a company commander in the infantry during the first Lebanon war, and is recently retired from military reserves as a Major (Ret).
The Consul General is married to Julie Goodman-Aharoni, and has three children, Talia (20), Sharon (17) and Adam (12).
