Prosor Takes United Nations Post

At his weekly cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the appointment of Ron Prosor as Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations. The fifty one year old Prosor was the Jewish State’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom for the four years preceding his UN nomination.
Prosor served as an officer in the Artillery Division of the IDF, and held the rank of Major. He holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The Ambassador is married to Hadas, and is the father of Lior, Tomer and Oren.
The newly appointed Ambassador has published extensively, with articles appearing in the Daily Telegraph, The Times, the Sun as well as on electronic media including The Guardian, BBC, Radio 4’s ‘Today’ program, as well as BBC News 24 and Sky News, and has been a commentator in Britain’s Jewish media, with articles appearing in the Jewish Chronicle and Jewish News
Ambassador Prosor has held several major Ministry of Foreign Affairs positions, including Deputy Director General. He was Chief of Staff to then Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom. His initiative helped foster renewed diplomatic negotiations with the Vatican. The Ambassador was a member of Israel’s Wye River Memorandum delegation (1998). He was Counselor for Political Affairs throughout the Camp David Accords peace talks.
Prosor replaces Meron Reuben who was Israel’s fifteenth Ambassador to the United Nations. He was appointed at the conclusion of the term of Dr. Gabriela Shalev. His appointment is said to represent agreement between Prime Minister Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.
