Chief of the General Staff of the IDF, General Benny Gantz, has ordered rapid deployment of the “Iron Dome” system across Southern Israel.
The “Iron Dome” system, designed and created by Israel’s domestic defense industries, is in an accelerated process of assimilation into the IAF, and should soon be fully operational. The system is currently in an evaluation stage on an operational level. “Iron Dome” will provide part of the answer to the threat of rocket fire at Israel’s southern communities, in addition to the continued use of shelters and existing offensive measures.
The decision to accelerate system deployment came in response to recent events in southern Israel, and is based on security assessments. The deployment will not be permanent; systems can be moved from location to location between areas according to evolving security assessments.
