Benjamin Netanyahu addressed an adoring crowd at the grand finale gala dinner of the annual AIPAC policy conference in Washington D.C. last night, doubling down in no uncertain terms on his position regarding Israels borders, saying “Israel can’t return to the indefensible 1967 lines.”
The speech, delivered to a crowd of over 10,000, largely neglected to hint at the recent disagreements between the Prime Minister and President Obama.
Netanyahu spoke of the virtue of democracy, saying “Israel is not whats wrong with the Middle East, Israel is whats right about the Middle East,” and “What the people of Israel want is for the people of the Middle East to have freedom.”
Giving a taste of what is on his agenda for tomorrow’s speech to congress he said that he “will describe what a peace between a Jewish State and Palestinian State could look like,” adding, “I intend to speak the unvarnished truth, now more than ever what we need is truth.”
The Prime Minister placed the blame for the current impasse squarely at the feet of the Palestinian Arabs saying; ” the conflict has raged for 100 years because the Palestinians refuse to accept the Jewish State.”
The crowd responded warmly with rigorous applause and many standing ovations, at times drowning out the protests of hecklers who interrupted the speech.
