Ynet – Despite reports suggesting that mass rallies planned in Syria and Lebanon to mark the Arab loss in the Six Day War – had been cancelled, protesters assembled at the Syrian-Israeli international border fence. They hurled stones at IDF troops in an attempt to cross the border into Israel.
IDF forces called on the demonstrators to cease their progress, before firing warning shots in the air. As the rioters ignored repeated warnings, troops fired at the lower extremities of several major dissidents. it is unclear how many protesters were killed, however Syrian state run media suggested 14 protesters were killed.
On the request of the Syrian Red Cross, the IDF agreed to cease fire for a short period of time in order to facilitate the evacuation of the injured. (click here for video)
