WSJ – A federal jury found a Pakistani-born Chicago man guilty on two of three terrorism-related counts, including an abandoned attack against the Copenhagen newspaper that ran cartoons of the prophet Muhammad.
But Thursday’s verdict on Tahawwur Hussain Rana, 50, found him not guilty in helping plan the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, which resulted in more than 160 casualties. Prosecutors attempted to link Rana to the Mumbai attacks based on the testimony of David Coleman Headley, who had already admitted guilt on 12 counts related to the Mumbai assault and offered his cooperation in exchange for a guarantee that prosecutors would not seek the death penalty against him. Covertly taped conversations and coded emails also played a large role in the case against Rana.
