Israel: Being Right Isn’t Always Enough

Today, the Associated Press, Washington Post, and others had positive stories relating to Palestinian PR efforts, and it’s scary to see that Israel seems to be a sitting duck for the world’s media. This week, two Israeli cabinet members told me, privately, that they are very concerned about what the world will say about Israel following the upcoming UN vote.
The Palestinians continue to understand the world of propaganda and media symbols. A letter was delivered to the UN today by “Latifah Abdul-Hamid, a 70-year-old woman who lost one son in fighting with Israel and has seven other sons in Israeli prisons because of alleged militant activities. Officials said Abu-Hamid was selected to deliver the document because her personal story reflects the plight of the Palestinians.” The media doesn’t identify these so-called “militants,” and Israel public relations efforts wouldn’t think of exposing these men who, more than likely, tried to kill innocent Jews.
Of course, in Israel and throughout the Middle East, the Palestinians will coordinate their activities, including mass demonstrations, and media manipulation. As the Algemeiner reported recently, the PLO Mission in the U.S., in advance of the upcoming September vote, has hired Bill Pottinger, a leading International PR agency to provide “advice on strategic communications, public relations, media relations and congressional affairs.”
Their proactive public relations campaign has allowed attention to focus on a diplomatic showdown at the UN. Israel still hasn’t engaged a PR agency to highlight the fact that even America stands against these Palestinian efforts. Israel: “Being right isn’t enough. Explaining actions is necessary.”
