Steve Jobs the innovative co founder of Apple, died Wednesday at his home in California. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004 and had been in failing health for the last several years. The creator of the Iphone and the Ipad resigned as CEO in August, 2011.
On June 21, Israel’s Minister of Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs, Yuli Edelstein wrote to Jobs requesting that Apple remove an iPad application, “The Third Intifada.” “I believe Apple, as a pioneering and progressive company, places the values of liberty, freedom of expression and creativity as a guiding light,” wrote Edelstein. “I am convinced that you are aware of this type of application’s ability to unite many toward an objective that could be disastrous.” Edelstein asked that Apple remove apps designed for “incitement to violence.”
The free app, launched on June 15, was pulled. An Apple spokesperson stated that “We removed this app from the App Store because it violates the developer guidelines by being offensive to large groups of people.”
Praising the former Apple Chief, President Obama said “Steve was among the greatest of American innovators – brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.” Apple CEO Tim Cook, who began his tenure in August, called Jobs “a visionary and creative genius,…an amazing human being.”
