Islamists Clash With Egyptian Police at Massive Rally

WSJ – CAIRO — One person was killed and 676 people were injured in rioting between police and protesters in Cairo’s central Tahrir Square on Saturday, according to Egypt’s official state news agency, as the interim government’s efforts to mollify opponents of military rule appeared to fall flat.

The violence on Saturday came one day after a massive show of force by mostly Islamists in the same square, adding to concerns that a three-month long parliamentary election set to begin in nine days may be marked by a continuing cycle of protests and violence against Egypt’s interim military leadership.
