The London Times Sunday edition reported yesterday that the Israeli government would notify Washington D.C. regarding an imminent airstrike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, 12 hours in advance. The paper reports that the message was delivered to U.S. Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey during his visit to Israel late last week.
Israeli President Shimon Peres said to Gen. Dempsey: “I am sure that in this fight [against Iran] we will emerge victorious. It is a fight that does not belong exclusively to the United States or Israel, but a global struggle to create a safe world for all peoples.”
According to the report, Prime Minister Netanyahu believes that President Obama would attempt to dissuade and even prevent an Israeli strike once learning about the news.
The paper cited a spike in oil prices and the ripple effects that they would have on the global economy as the President heads into November’s elections. This basic premise has been written about by numerous outlets over the past few weeks.
