The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced it’s Oscar nominations on Tuesday. The Israeli film, “Footnote”, has been nominated for Best Foreign Language Film, along with 4 other films, including Iran’s “A Separation”.
“Footnote”, which won for Best Screen at the Cannes Film Festival, follows a father and son who both study Talmud at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. “A Separation” also ecompasses a family theme, with a Tehran based husband and wife struggling through the decision to move out of Iran with their daughter, or stay to take care of the husbands father who is suffering from Alzheimers.
The Belgian film “Bullhead” was also nominated along with Canada’s “Monsieur Lazhar” and Poland’s “In Darkness”.
