Katherine Hooker designs clothing worn by the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton – one of the world’s most closely watched fashion icons.
In an interview with New York Magazine, Hooker spoke about the Israeli and Hasidic inspiration for her entire line of clothing.
“I bought a young boy’s Hasidic coat in a junk shop and it was an old one, like when clothes used to be made for people as opposed to mass market. I was 18 and tiny and skinny, and it fit me absolutely perfectly; it was made for a 14-year-old boy or something, she told the magazine.”
Her first store opened in London in 2004, and since then she has become a favorite designer of Middleton, her sister Pippa and other members of the royal family.
Describing the coat she first saw in Israel, which led to one of the Duchess’s favorite pieces, Hooker told the Mail Online publication, based out of the UK, “it was ‘black silk with a little collar, cut small shoulders, straight down’ and like her label’s current Opera coat but with a Tallulah jacket collar.”
Hooker’s clothing can be found in New York at Peter Elliot Women, on 81st Street in New York.
