NY Times – An immigration appeals judge ordered the government on Monday to release on bail a militant Islamic preacher who is considered a leader of Al Qaeda in Europe, despite government arguments that he is a threat to Britain’s security. The preacher, Abu Qatada, 51, whose real name is Omar Othman, has spent more than six years in British jails since his arrest after the Sept. 11 attacks in the United States, and had been described by a Spanish terrorism judge as “Osama bin Laden’s right-hand man in Europe.”
