Arnold Rothstein, Meyer Lansky, and Bugsy Siegel. These are some of the most famous Mafia names in American history, and they’re all Jewish.
They were all also born or at one point lived in New York City, the epicenter for organized crime in the early 20th century.
If you’ve ever wondered how and where these legends operated, you’re in luck. NYC Gangster Tours, run by Gideon Levy takes tour-goers around New York City, visiting the hangouts and buildings of operation for the most famous Jewish mobsters in American history.
“We go to some of the very familiar Lower East Side Jewish spots frequented by the gangsters. The Jewish Daily Forward Newspaper building, what was once Ratners deli, the Bargain Street District and Katz’s deli,” Levy said in an interview with The Algemeiner.
The Jewish Gangsters Tour has been around for just under 3 years now, and is the “brainchild” of Levy, who is launching the 2012 season of tours on March 18th.
“A lot of this has roots in Brownsville, Brooklyn That is where a lot of the earliest Jewish hitmen were from and these guys became known as Murder Incorporated,” Levy said.
The group was headed by Lansky and Siegel and operated throughout the United States.
