Who is Jodi Rudoren?
Until February 14th she was the head of the Education bureau for The New York Times. Now, she is to become the Jerusalem bureau chief for the New York Times.
Rudoren caused a recent twitter controversy, when she tweeted Ali Abunimah, a Palestinian activist who argues for Israel’s destruction.
Jodi Rudoren (formerly Wilgoren), 41, wife to Gary Rudoren, a 51 year-old architect and playwright, is the mother of two four and a half year old twin boys, an active member of The Beth Elohim Synagogue in Park Slope and a fundamental fixture at The New York Times.
I asked her on the phone how she manages to take care of it all.
“I have a wonderful husband, we can handle it fine,” she said.
Rudoren grew up in Newton, Massachusetts and spent her summers at Camp Yavne in New Hampshire.
She earned her BA in History at Yale University in 1992 and since then she has embarked on a journalistic tour around the United States. As a reporter for both The New York and Los Angeles Times, Ruderon has covered issues related to immigration, education, the Columbine tragedy, the largest municipal bankruptcy in history, and the 2004 presidential campaign. For five years, she was The Times’ Chicago bureau chief and last April she became The New York Times’ education bureau chief.
It is now a matter of days until she moves to her new apartment in Jerusalem, along with her entire family.
