A 50 foot billboard of Academy Award winning actress Natalie Portman marketing Dior cosmetics has gone up in Lebanon’s capital city of Beirut, and anti-Israel Lebanese bloggers are not thrilled.
Portman, who is a duel American and Israeli citizen, was born in Jerusalem and grew up in New York.
“Since each contact or with an Israeli occupation in Lebanon is considered a crime, you do not think hanging a poster size of 15 meters with the Zionist Jerusalem is illegal?,” wrote on Lebanese blogger.
“Portman, who was born in Jerusalem and whose real last name is Hershlag, has spoken at length about her love for her home country and how she wants to move back there once there is peace. She is very active in Zionist groups, though she is also a human rights activist—as long as those humans aren’t Palestinians,” wrote another.
Back in March of 2011, Dior – the Paris based high end fashion company – fired John Galliano, a fashion designer, for his remarks about loving Hitler during a drunken tirade at a French cafe. Portman camed out strongly against Galliano’s remarks at the time.
“As an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way,” the actress said.
