Up 34% from 2010, commerce transactions between England and Israel had a very good year in 2011, according to the British Ambassador to Israel, Matthew Gould.

Close to $6 billion in mutual exports occurred, prompting the Ambassador to note the strengthening economic ties between the two countries, and the lack of practicality the threats of boycotting Israeli products has coming from inside England.

“The people calling to boycott Israel make a lot of noise, but their influence is very small. The British government is opposed to boycotting Israel but if someone is concerned about it, just look at the numbers,” Gould said.

As the two nations strengthen ties , particularly in the area of technology collaboration, Gould continues to be an avid supporter of economic cooperation.

“The scope of commerce has grown sharply, by 34 percent over the past year,” said Gould. “It’s a fantastic figure and an appropriate answer to the economic boycott question.”

Late last year, following the opening of the “high-tech hub” inside Britain’s embassy in Israel, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, spoke about the need for more “export of expertise and capital” into Britain from Israel.
