Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government (named for John F. Kennedy) is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading academic institutions for those seeking work in public service.

Recently though, it has come under increased scrutiny for the decision to host a conference entitled “Israel/Palestine and the One-State Solution.”

The event has been organized by a group of Harvard students, and not the university itself.  Funding is being provided by the school’s student government.

Now, Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown is adding his name to the list of people who strongly oppose the event, telling the school it should be cancelled.

“I want to condemn in the strongest possible terms Harvard’s sponsorship of a conference exploring a ‘one-state solution’ to the Israel-Palestinian conflict,” he said. “This is dangerous thinking that gives comfort to Israel’s enemies who view the ‘one-state solution’ as a euphemism for eliminating Israel as a Jewish state. Harvard may have a right to do this, but that doesn’t make it right to do it. The University should cancel this conference.”

“Academic elites need to understand that their ideas have real world consequences well beyond the comforts of the ivory tower, and the last thing Israel needs is Harvard legitimizing a terribly misguided idea,” Brown said.
