Hoenlein on King Abdullah Meeting: Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Fresh off a visit to the Middle East and Europe, Malcolm Hoenlein, head of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, arrived at the AIPAC conference on Monday.
His trip abroad included meetings with top NATO military officials, King Abdullah II of Jordan, and representatives of the International Criminal Court.
Following his meeting with King Abdullah, Hoenlein said the Jordanian monarch was very complimentary of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s efforts in the the peace process with the Palestinian leadership. This message was contradicted by Jordan’s official government news agency, Petra, which blamed Israel for the stoppage of peace negotiations, warning against “unilateral actions” by the Jewish state.
“He didn’t deny what he said, they put out a negative statement on unilateral actions, and it could be the people that were there went very far in front of 100 people, because they have their own agendas, and that’s the Middle East,” Hoenlein said to The Algemeiner in reference to the Petra statement.
Asked about the issue of duplicity, where King Abdullah said one thing and Jordan’s official news agency said another, Hoenlein stressed that actions speak louder than words.
“The real issue is what people do and the King has worked closely with Netanyahu and they want to support his efforts to keep the peace process alive,” he said.
“Is there duplicity in the Middle East, it’s the nature of the Middle East.”
