“Artists 4 Israel” is an association of recognized and talented artists that join their forces to educate the world on Israeli polemics. The alliance’s new goal is to showcase their controversial “Israeli Bomb Shelter Museum” in New York City.
The project is an installation exhibit of a replicated bomb shelter in Southern Israel, which borders Gaza. The idea is to raise awareness and sensibility among Americans to the threat Israelis live under, by recreating a terrorist “Red Alert” attack, using multimedia.
The “Israeli Bomb Shelter Museum” had a successful first appearance at The Vered Gallery of East Hampton, New York.
Now, a group of art students from Columbia University and Barnard University hope to bring this project to their campuses, located in Morningside Heights, in Upper Manhattan. They want other students to “viscerally feel what Israelis went through last week during the repeated rocket strikes upon towns and cities in southern Israel”. Most of these students became empathetic with the situation in Israel when they visited the Jewish state on Birthright trips.
The “Artists 4 Israel” are hoping to showcase their installation on campus this month, with sponsorship from the Birthright Israeli Community. They have yet to receive approval of their schools.
Last March, the NYPD and the City Parks Department shut down the multimedia shelter located in Washington Square Park just half an hour after it was installed, due to the loud sirens that violated city code.
The “Artists 4 Israel” will continue their fight to bring the shelter to New York City.
