The two biggest British supermarket chains are selling matzah meals that are not certified for Passover, according to several customers.
The Borehamwood branch of Tesco, the biggest supermarket chain in the UK, displayed matzah meals that were not kosher for Passover in the “Kosher for Passover” section according to customer Lesley Morris. She claimed that one of the two packets she bought from that branch on Wednesday was unsuitable for Passover.
Another woman said that only one of three matzah meal types was certified for Passover, after an online purchase from the same Borehamwood branch. A shopper in Brent Cross reported the same problem.
A Tesco spokesman said: “We do our very best to make sure that our products always match our shelf edge labels. We have asked staff to check our kosher goods regularly to ensure this is the case.”
Asda, the second largest supermarket chain in the UK, also appears to be unaware of the dietary requirements for Passover. An Asda customer said an online delivery included blue Rakusen’s matzah, “which cannot be eaten during the festival.”
