The Huffington Post will live blog all 49 days between Passover and the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, known as the Omer.
The site’s religion page, run by editor Paul Raushenbush, just finished “the longest live blog ever” – a full 40 day live blog covering the holiday of lent. “There was a good community that was involved,” Raushenbush said of the lent blog.
The Omer Blog, which began on April 6th, the second day of Passover “offers the opportunity to ascend the 49 level of renewal as part of a virtual Omer community”, according to The Post.
“Each day, we will update this liveblog with spiritual intentions, prayers, scripture, poems, art and reflections from our bloggers related to that day’s spiritual energy,”
When asked by BuzzFeed about calling a blog that lasts 40 or more days, a “live blog”, Raushenbush compared it a Super Bowl blog.
“It’s exactly like that only it’s just spread out over a lot longer time,” he said. “And of course people going through Lent were not only staying on the Lent live blog. With a live blog of the Super Bowl, if you waited three minutes between posts — this was a little bit more spaced out.”
