The campaign manager for one of Egypt’s disqualified presidential candidates was kicked off a television program recently, for claiming that the host was Jewish.
Gamel Saber, who ran the former campaign of anti-American and ultra-conservative Islamist Sheikh Hazem Abu Ismail, brought documents with him that he said proved the studio’s host, Azza Mustafa, is Jewish.
“You are a prominent media personality, and you are famous worldwide because you are talented and smart, and you moderate the dialogue very well…But there is another reason why you are so famous. Do you know what it is? I know that you know, but I will let the viewers know as well. [Our host] Azza is of Jewish origin! Here are the documents. You may have a look,” Saber said on Mustafa’s program “Studio al-Balad”.
When the show’s host asked to see the documents and noted that the picture on the papers was not of her, Saber replied “whatever”, leading to Mustafa kicking the Salafist former campaign manager off her program.
“I am very sorry, but you will have to leave. Even if you want to demonstrate how anyone can accuse anyone of anything, I’m asking you to leave because you made this comparison and told me I am Jewish,” she said.
Saber was in charge of Sheikh Hazem Abu Ismail’s presidential campaign, but the ultra-conservative Islamist candidate was expelled from the election due to reports that his mother held U.S. citizenship, a claim Abu Ismail denies.
