Tami Hausner Raveh—daughter of Gideon Hausner, Adolf Eichmann’s prosecutor—recently came full circle by meeting Ambassador Dr. Peter Wittig, Permanent Representative of Germany at the United Nations.

Wittig greeted Raveh at the UN during a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Eichmann’s trial April 19.

The Nazi mastermind Eichmann was spotted in Argentina in 1957 living quietly as Ricardo Klement, a member of the German “expat” community. Put on trial in Jerusalem and hanged in Ramla, Eichmann remained unrepentant, telling a friend that he wished the Nazis “had finished the job.” Raveh was 14 years old during Eichmann’s 1961 trial.

At the UN April 19, a panel discussion was held on the trial and its implications for international justice. Knesset member Yossi Peled announced the inauguration of new Israeli government-funded scholarships to support Holocaust studies. On the topic of Eichmann’s arrest, famed humanitarian Elie Wiesel said, “I wanted to dance—I who had never danced in my life.”
