CafePress Removes “Hate Israel” T-Shirt From Site

CafePress, the website that allows its customers to choose from a wide variety of customizable apparel, has decided to remove a t-shirt that reads “I Love Jews but Hate Israel”.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center sent a letter to the California based company, which does close to $150 million in revenue per year, asking them to remove the shirt from their site. According to an e-mail sent to Arutz Sheva in Israel from CafePress, once they received correspondence from The Simon Wiesenthal Center, the product was reviewed and following the review, the shirt was removed.
“CafePress’ independent design community spans the globe, with users representing a multicultural and multinational ideals and sentiments. As such, users may upload designs that some find distasteful or offensive, but are nevertheless consistent with our policies for expressions and content on our website. At times, user-uploaded designs may be unacceptable based on our content usage policy or other considerations and those images may be removed,” the company wrote in an e-mail.
The company also stated that deciding which merchandise should stay and which should go is “often seen as political statement, which we do not believe reflects our role as a platform for self-expression.”
Hamas oriented merchandise is currently available on the site and their is a push taking place to have it removed.
