The U.S. is conferring with Israel about new sanctions on Iran, should future international negotiations fail to curb the Islamic republic’s nuclear program, a U.S. official said on Monday.
Israel has grown increasingly impatient with the lack of progress toward circumscribing the Iranian nuclear program, particularly during the previous rounds of nuclear negotiations between Iran and six Western powers — the U.S., China, Russia, France, Britain and Germany. The third round of talks will be hosted by Russia on June 18-19.
“The sanctions are having an impact on Iran, but I also recognize that more needs to be done. And we are intent on doing more,” the U.S. Treasury Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, David Cohen, told Army Radio on Monday.
