In a speech to Orthodox Jewish leaders on Tuesday, President Barack Obama said that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority may be too weak, politically, to deliver and implement a peace agreement with Israel. Obama added that he will continue to work towards a two state solution.
He also emphasized that differences between Washington and Jerusalem stem from what he called a centrist government in the U.S. and a right wing government in Israel.
“The president discussed with the rabbis and lay leaders a variety of issues of mutual concern on issues related to both domestic and foreign policy,” said a White House official.
“The president reiterated his unwavering support for Israel’s security and his commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons,” the official added.
