J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot will collaborate with Paramount Pictures to produce Wunderkind, an upcoming film about a young CIA agent teaming up with the title character, an elderly Mossad agent, in their chase for Nazi war-criminals in the backdrop of the Cold War during the 1970s.
With a script written by Patrick Aison, Wunderkind tells the story about a team of two spies from “allied but rival nations”, according to Entertainment Weekly, in an investigation that fails to go according to plan. The upcoming project is reported to be inspired by The French Connection and the Bourne film series.
Abrams’ relationship with Paramount dates back to 2006, when he first signed a deal with the studio to produce Mission Impossible III. Since then, Bad Robot and Paramount have collaborated on Cloverfield, Star Trek, Morning Glory, and Super 8, with Abrams directing several of these films as well.
Born in New York and raised in LA, Jacob Jeffrey Abrams seemed to be destined for the film industry being that his parents were television and executive producers. In addition for his knack for creating blockbuster films, Abrams is also known for creating hit TV series such as Alias and Lost.
Wunderkind is not the only Jewish-related project that Abrams is working on. Paramount and Bad Robot have also recently acquired the rights to the sci-fi thriller script for God Particle written by Mortal Kombat’s Oren Uziel, about an Armageddon-like ending to the world and the American astronauts struggle for survival at a space station.
