A 56 year old man in northern Israel was bitten by a Black Widow spider and is in serious condition at Rambam Hospital, located in the city of Haifa.
According to reports from Israeli media, the man was able to bring the spider to the hospital, which has helped the doctors there treat his condition.
Widow spiders are known as relatively dangerous when compared to other spiders, although while their venom is considered to be toxic, when a bite is treated with adequate medical care, patients are usually able to recover.
The term “black widow” refers to the female widow spiders who eat their male counterparts while mating.
