Camila Giorgi, the Italian born Jewish tennis player who came into Wimbledon ranked as the 145th best female player in the world, lost 6-2, 6-3 to Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland on Monday.
A report in the UK’s Jewish Chronicle notes the possibility of Giorgi immigrating to Israel following the tournament. The paper says her father is negotiating a monetary agreement with the Israeli Tennis Federation, which would reportedly pay her around $100,000 in return for a percentage of her tennis winnings over a certain time frame.
Giorgi had won her previous 3 matches in straight sets leading into Monday’s meeting with Radwanska, the world’s #3 player.
