Following terrorist attacks at the Egyptian border and concern over that country’s election of Muslim Brotherhood President Mohamed Morsi, Israel will set up the Iron Dome missle defense system near Eilat, Reuters reported.
According to an Israeli military spokesperson, the Iron Dome battery “will be placed near Eilat as part of an operational deployment program which includes changing the locations of the batteries from time to time.”
Until now, the Iron Dome has been used primarily to intercept Hamas rockets from Gaza, but now the system moves to Israel’s southernmost city. In June, an unidentified gunman killed an Israeli worker after crossing the Egyptian border, and eight Israelis were killed in a cross-border attack there in August 2011.
