Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said this morning that a suicide bomber was the likely culprit of yesterday’s bus bomb attack that left 8 people dead.
Authorities released footage of the suspect who has long hair, was wearing shorts and carrying a backpack that is large enough to carry a powerful bomb. He was described as ‘normal’ looking by the Bulgarian Interior Minister. The man is thought to be the culprit as he was seen to be scouting the area for up to an hour prior to the attack, and his body was the most badly torn apart by the blast according to Sofia-based news agency Novinite.
Officials are in the midst of a full investigation, which includes collaboration from the CIA and the FBI. The suspected bomber was carrying a U.S. passport and a drivers licence from Michigan both of which are believed to be fake.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Iran is responsible for the attack which included children and pregnant women among its victims.
On condition of anonymity an Israeli official confirmed to The Algemeiner; “intelligence indicates very strongly that Iran is the culprit.”
“We know that Bulgaria has been a continuous target for the Iranians,” the source added, “this attack fits their modus operandi.”
“This heinous attack on the soil of a sovereign state, a member of the European Union, is a provocation meant to sabotage the efforts to promote peace ,” said Prime Minister Borisov.
