When you sink the putt, Hitler salutes you, inside the Lancashire Gallery in Britain. The golf hole, designed by Jake and Dinos Chapman, is part of a series of golf holes constructed as works of art.
The Lancashire gallery and the leader of a British Jewish organization are now in a public dispute over the piece, which the gallery defends as a means to “ridicule” Hitler, while Michael Samuels of the Board of Deputies of British Jews says the the golf hole is “tasteless”
“He’s not somebody that you would make a joke of – Hitler was responsible for the murders of many millions of people,” Samuels said. “I am appalled that the gallery would stoop to show an item like this which, in my opinion, has got absolutely no artistic value whatsoever. If I were the gallery, I would give it back to the artists and tell them to keep it in the shed.”
Stuart Tulloch, the Lancashire Gallery’s curator says Hitler lost his war and the golf hole “gives us the chance now to ridicule him”.
“The powerful image of the Nazi regime within the context of holiday fun and in doing so making reference to the British wartime spirit of making humour at the Fuhrer’s expense,” the gallery stated, according to the BBC.
