Mitt Romney affirmed his support on Friday for the United States to lead the charge in stopping Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
Hours after Quds Day (created in 1979 following the Islamic Revolution to oppose Zionism and support Palestinians) demonstrations in Iran, in which the country’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called Israel’s existence “an insult to humanity” and a day after Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei said Israel would “disappear from the geographical landscape” and be replaced by a Palestinian state, Romney released a statement condemning the remarks and invoked historical precedence as a reason to stop Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
“America must lead the world in stopping Iran’s genocidal regime from obtaining a nuclear weapons capability,” Romney said in a statement to reporters. “Ahmadinejad’s latest outrageous remarks are just another reminder of what is at stake. As I said recently when visiting Jerusalem, ‘We have seen the horrors of history. We will not stand by. We will not watch them play out again.'”
Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah spoke at a Quds Day rally in Lebanon on Friday, boasting of thousands of rockets in his group’s possession, that could bring “hell” to thousands of Israels.
“Hitting these targets with a small number of rockets will turn … the lives of hundreds of thousands of Zionists to real hell, and we can talk about tens of thousands of dead,” Nasrallah said.
